Biosketch:

Dr. Josie Lehrer is a public health researcher, practitioner, lecturer and social entrepreneur. She is Founder/Director of the Men’s Story Project (MSP), a scalable health communication initiative which aims to strengthen social norms that support healthy masculinities and gender equality through men’s public testimonial-sharing events, educational films, other mass media, and related educational tools and movement-building efforts. www.mensstoryproject.org

Dr. Lehrer’s research and applied work focuses on the prevention of gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS and the promotion of healthy masculinities and gender equality. Dr. Lehrer facilitates support groups for LGBT youth who are living with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco, and has consulted with groups including San Francisco Women against Rape, American Jewish World Service and World Vision International. Dr. Lehrer’s awards include the UCSF Chancellor’s Award for Public Service and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Special Recognition Award, and her work has been highlighted internationally in media including CNN, MSNBC, Huffington Post and Forbes.com.

Lehrer holds a doctoral degree from the Harvard School of Public Health and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. Her family is from Chile and she is a native Spanish speaker.
