Biosketch:

Julia R. Steinberg, PhD, is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF. Her work is at the intersection of psychology and reproductive health, and includes examining the role of psychosocial factors in contraceptive behaviors and unintended pregnancy, understanding the relationship between abortion and subsequent mental health, and investigating how body image influences depressive symptoms and health behaviors during pregnancy.

Areas of Interest:

• Pregnancy outcomes and mental health
• Causes and correlates of perinatal and post-pregnancy mental health
• Role of mental health and emotions in reproductive behavior and decisions
• Mechanism by which childhood sexual violence leads to unintended pregnancy, pregnancy decision-making, and post-pregnancy adjustment
